How do I find a good family practice doctor?

I mean, I know the basics--go to my insurance company list, see who's available, call to see if they're accepting patients, and so on--but it all feels so..."sight unseen," I guess? I'd like someone who can be a doc for both me and DaMan, not to mention any potential DaManderlings in the future.

Are there doctor-recommendation sites online? Have you ever used one?
