Yeah, I guess I approached it with a combative view--and that really colored my take on it. It was fun, definitely--and had it been about another subject that's not my particular bugbear, I would have loved it. Mostly it's me being cranky. I think that (like Snow Crash) I would be far more charitable to it, happy with it, and likely to enjoy it if there wasn't the '*oh*my*god* this is the Best Book Ever ' aura around it.

Which reminds me. It's been maybe seven years since I read Snow Crash. I might check to see if I like it, now that there's time and distance...
