Usually I just browse through Rob Brezsny's Astrology Newsletter, but this one stopped me:

Re: #1: In the one philosophy class I took in college, I read an essay that stated that the desire to make others happy was an "unselfish selfishness." I'm not sure, but I think that may have been in the one about utilitarian ethics, which posited the Golden Rule as logical for practical reasons rather than religious ones. (It's been WAY to long for me to cite titles or authors, and you probably know this stuff better than I do anyway.)
