I sent the scary emails to Harvard last night. The "Hi, you don't know me, wanna talk about what it might be like if I studied under you?" emails. Arranging for a mutual scope-out.

Next is Chicago, though I have to narrow my choices there first.

Any recommendations for fiction? I've been headfirst in essays, research, and commentary (plus a well-written "Very Brief Introduction to Literary Theory"), and I'm in desperate need of a fictionfix. Anything. Genre, non-genre, old, new, just so long as I haven't read it yet.

The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0312282990/qid=1082757592/sr=8-1/ref=pd_ka_1/103-9545722-0100602?v=glance&s=books&n=507846) by Michael Chabon was hella fun reading. It's intelligent without feeling academic, and his characters are really cool. Even Salvador Dali makes an appearance.

Perdido Street Station, by China Miéville

Have you read Dan Simmons? You might like his Hyperion series (four books). He's a brilliant author and a master of any genre. We adore him and sacrifice all our local virgins to him.
