(no subject)

Some of you know that I send out a semi-regular Sewing Circle and Resistance Society email. It's basically a list of links to ways you can help; local actions, places to donate, ways to make an impact, upcoming rallies or protests, and so on.

If you'd like to be included in the emails, let me know either here or over email.

If you have something you'd like me to send out, let me know.

I'll be at tomorrow's Close the Camps rally downtown.

In the meantime: Be kind to yourselves, and remember: You are Not Alone.

prose gods

I'm not writing here much anymore, alas.

But I am writing elsewhere, somewhere that isn't Facebook. In order to keep my religion-heart going while I work in another field, I'm posting twice-weekly entries to Prose Gods, https://prosegods.wordpress.com/ .

The tagline is "Cataloguing and contemplating deities and religions in sf. Updates biweekly. Expect spoilers."

I just finished Godless Week with the Riddle-Master of Hed and might, if I've got the brain for it, tackle round one of Good Omens for Friday.

And I have a bunch of feelings about that.

Days 9 and 10 of Small Good Things

Didn't get a chance to post last night, so here:

Day 9:
More time playing "Gay Mages in Love," aka Dragon Age 2.
Colossal prune-eating cleanliness failures.
Cutty's Roast Beef sammiches.

Day 10:
Cooperative doctors.
Encouraging advisors.
eBook checkouts from the BPL.

And a little more detailed:
I checked out the latest Stephen R. Donaldson book via my iPod Touch (whoa, I am in the future now) and am reading it bit by bit. And somehow, it's exactly what I need.

On one hand, I think this book is showing all his weaknesses in big capital letters: the language sends me running for a dictionary (surquedry? wtf?) and the first few chapters have consisted almost entirely of people standing around making expository speeches.

On the other hand, SRD touches some need within me, some resonance with the moral themes of his work, bleak and uncompromising though they may be. Trust. Love. Loyalty. The need to stand against "the dictates of despair." I need that now; that rejection of the self-loathing and emptiness that despair brings. The idea that sometimes it is simply enough to reject despair, even if we don't have the strength to do more.

Now if only the language weren't so...clenched.

Day 1 of Small Good Things

Sure, there's a formal meme-text that goes with this. I am uninterested in taking the time to look it up. And since there are big good things in my life, I thought I'd focus on the small good things a bit, partly to get me writing, partly to get me back on LJ, and partly to refocus from the sleepy slump I've been in lately. So here is Day 1 of N Days of Small Good Things:

Day 1: Meeting a fluffy puppy on the bus into work this morning. Bus was uncrowded, puppy was eager and friendly and licked my hands.

SANTA IS COMING FOR YOU

...have another Christmas moment.

Another Christmas special!

What the heck. Because while the last one was a warm, fuzzy reminder of the joys and comforts of Christmas and togetherness and Jim Henson, this one has a giant blue man rubbing two Santas together till they pop.

Watch out for the icy patch!

My favorite holiday special is not available on DVD or video (licensing stuff) but the magic of Youtube lets me watch it anyway.

bloggling

Boggling at the blog. There's so much I want to write about--how the book club readings are making me yearn for good spec fic, how baby weight and body image are weird at best, how the phenomenon of Stupid Stuff On The Internet is saving my sanity--let alone all the changes of Life With Young Frog.

Who, by the way, is three months old today. Three months of this new person changing my world, my life, me, and how I relate to everything around me...I want to have the moments to simply sit and record it all, but that's probably going to have to wait till I get some babycafe time early next week. Until now, I will only leave you with the following:

All this, and...

cawphi

For those of you on the Twonky filter, I'll post more about the Frog later this week. (and if you want on the filter, let me know!)

But for everyone else: What's the best and silliest ways that the following sentence can be completed:
"I like my [women/men] like I like my coffee:...

Current contenders, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] stealthmuffin and [livejournal.com profile] sen_no_ongaku and a generous helping of sleep deprivation:

"...available at the 7-11 for $1.99!"
"...carried over the mountains in a burlap sack on the back of a donkey!"
"...overpriced and topped with whipped cream!"
"...finely ground, steamed, and frothy!"

Any additions?

north of the border

You know, by Friday I'll probably have rested enough to be able to post about last week's vacation and this week's trip to a media/religion conference in Toronto. There's a lot to tell: hoodoos, Love, nine-year-old drama, Twonky, unexpected pants, goddamn blueberries. Oh, and the presentation went well.

But for right now, I wanted to share something with you. Two somethings, to be specific. The King of All the Cosmos from Katamari Damacy and the Old Spice Guy from those Old Spice ads both have Twitter accounts. Twitter accounts that, to me at least, sound eerily familiar.

In fact, can you tell the difference between their posts? I made a few adjustments, since the King normally uses the Royal We and the Old Spice Guy just uses the plain old rugged singular pronoun.
