a long string of inappropriate metaphors
Dec. 7th, 2005 05:31 pmOne of my three final papers is a close-reading exercise. (The other two are research papers for which I have checked out but not yet read large amounts of source materials.)
I love close reading. I love spending a large amount of time on a smallish text, poking at it and questioning it.
Posted in the hallway of HDS is a Billy Collins poem about reading poems...waterskiing on the surface of the poem waving to the author on the shore...which ends with a great image of his students beating a poem with a hose to make it talk.
Inspired by that, and thinking about how much I love close reading and how much fun I'm having on this paper (yeah, despite the overscheduling and the lots-of-work and the stress, it's still so much fun), I present you with: ( a long string of inappropriate metaphors )
Either I've been in school too long (twelve weeks?) or I've found the best place to be.
