ever mindful
Nov. 23rd, 2006 07:22 pmA surge of kindness is covering my friendslist today, full of people musing over things they are thankful for. Big and small: things as vast as "humanity" and "freedom" and as intimate as "being inside with a loved one while the rain falls outside." So I offer a thanksgiving grace for you, and to you, today.
For near and far I thank you: the distance of the future and the swiftness of its approach; the past that cools in the distance and is as close as a smell or a taste. For the near beloved and the closeness of friends that defies physical space; for the far reach between me and the happy chaos in this house. Thank you for being so close to me--and so far away.
In my family, we often finish grace with this: "And keep us ever mindful of the needs of others, while we are in the midst of plenty." May you all know plenty today, of love and joy and tasty food and hope.
