...and get off my damn lawn!!
Jan. 6th, 2009 08:34 pmFrom today's reading:
Scattered in amongst some good points about religious revivals, moral orders, and secularization theory, I encountered this wonderful rant:
"[The counter-culture] exists in many forms. Its milder versions are represented by the widely diffused life-styles of the young, including unkempt, hirsute appearance and the affectation of patched-up clothes. In extreme forms, it may be seen as student protest, football hooliganism, or even guerrilla warfare. All these things are, together with contemporary music, rock festivals, permissive life-styles, truancy, vandalism, and drugs, thrusts against social order and received cultural values."
After reading that, I couldn't stop giggling and kept picturing the author waving his cane at those darned unkempt whippersnappers, hooligans, and guerrilla fighters (???) that wouldn't get off his lawn. Kids today! I tell you!
