I find that the cries of apocalypse from the masses of charitable organizations, while justified in that, sometimes you need to exaggerate a certain issue to have a certain impact, in end result backfire in my reactions: If an organization will spread manipulative propaganda (or its weak willed cousin, manipulative exaggeration) -- precisely why should we trust this organization with our time/money/support? The culture that that supports the need for these exaggerations do net harm to the images of these charities.
