I was sitting in the lounge, writing my paper at ten this morning. An organ started playing somewhere nearby--someone warming up for some kind of sports performance, judging from the tunes. I shrugged and continued working; music without words isn't very distracting to me.

And then, full blast, the Liberty Bell March--that is, the Monty Python theme song--came ringing through the halls just as I completed the draft.

I now expect a giant foot to stomp me when I finish it for good. Or some Gumbies to appear and hold forth on my thesis.

"MY THE-SIS...uh...MY THE-SIS IS ON THE...uh... MY THE-SIS IS..."

"Get on with it!"

"OOO-err, I'VE BROKEN IT..."

Gumbies match beautifully with capslock.

I often wonder what Mr. Sousa must think, from his comfy chair in the afterworld, of how his lovely patriotic march has been inextricably linked to a bunch of namby-pamby Brits and a gigantic squishing foot.

In tangential news: the boy for whom I have been trying to put down the torch I have been long carrying? Recently admitted to me that he 'just doesn't get' MP. Huh.

That sort of coincidence should happen much more often!
