it's a brick...haus.
Apr. 9th, 2006 10:40 pmActually, the Cyclorama isn't so much a house as a giant round-ish barnlike structure. But it is brick. And aesthetically ugly. By which I mean that it's got that weirdly fascinating industrial look, which should be just hideous but instead is compelling and weird and cool.
The Faith Quilts Project is exhibiting there right now (through 10pm tomorrow! come see!). This is, on the whole, good. What is not so good is my feets. They dislike being used on brick-and-concrete floors for eight and ten hour stretches, and would prefer to be soaked in warm water and massaged lovingly. Sometimes, my feet want things they cannot have.
I return to classes soon, with minimal loss of work (thank you spring break!), and will be trying to think out my final papers for the semester.
Current total includes: 1 20-25 page research paper; 1 15-page research paper; 1 5-8 page research paper; 1 2500-word report. Topics that I'm batting around are, respectively, Pale Fire and the dangers/possibilities of interpretation; Dorothy Day and Gandhi's attitude towards the environment and its impact on their ethical stance; the Faith Quilts Project as an example of allegorical biographical objects; and the set topic for the 2500-word report on what makes it possible for different pagan groups to all coexist under the term "pagan". Add on the German competency exam and a take-home final and I'm good!
And of course, being around quilts all day makes me think of more stitching projects. Once I'm done with the ISBCC quilt, I'd like to do a quilt with parts of various family fabrics (a flour sack, quilt bits), and a bookshelf quilt for
stealthmuffin. Then
sen_no_ongaku mentioned how cool a "Vice" quilt would be. Plus there's the Victoriana I'd like to do...and those Frankenbeanies...
One of the most cool quilts is a Wiccan Sacred Space. Others are prettier, or more detailed. This one's cool because it's used differently. Instead of being a wall hanging, this one is unrolled and used as a ceremonial square, for ritual and circle work.
Perhaps I shall design my own.
Also, several people have told me I should start an HDS quilt group. I may. After finals.
