sisters in the cold
Feb. 5th, 2007 09:29 am*My sibling has been to the Kremlin and is having dreams about the Super Bowl. Also, it's snowing there and is ridiculously cold.
*This is starting to look like the semester of "Sigerson gets cozy with Alistair MacIntyre." Aww yeah. After *my* Virtue, baby.
*Insight #1: When I'm depressed about academia, I get tentative. My papers came back with good grades, but comments that the thesis wasn't quite as strong as it could be, and they wanted to hear more of my voice. Next time, I'll go for the "wrong but strong!" attitude.
*Insight #2: If I am nervous about something, I end up not dealing--I avoid checking email, I put up mental guards against it, and so on. Not the best of maneuvers, and one I ought to change.
*One of the profs I like is headed to Northwestern next year. Ah well; it's not a hugely bad thing, because it looks like his research is shifting away from the work I'd like to do. I'm glad I got a chance to take courses with him.
*Still feeling remarkably calm about PhD applications. It would be...kind of awesome to explore another town, another university, another world, despite all the additional suck of moving.
*Continuing to have fun in Orb, though I'm wondering if I'm being a PITA to my players. But angsting about GM decisions is How I Do Things (tm), and as long as everyone's happy, it's good.

woobat and sylvantechie this weekend--very cool, with Mii creation and some Haunted House games, and a huge platter of scrambled eggs. Breakfast? Breakfast makes everything good.
